Metro Reports: PAE Living Building, Lloyd East Anchor, Dekum Apartments East and West, and more

Lloyd Center owner Cypress Equities is now proposing a revised concept for the east end theater addition to the mall. Instead of incorporating the Sears building into the new cinema, as originally proposed, a taller cinema will be built to the south of the Sears anchor building. The Sears building will be retained and renovated into an office building.

29,000SF 2-story brick office building to be the headquarters for Harder Mechanical Contrators. Building is on the Southeast corner of MLK and Thompson. Private surface parking to the east/behind the building with enterance off of Thompson. Site is non-contributing to the Eliot Conservation District.

The PAE Living Building has been submitted for a Type III Historic Resource Review by ZGF Architects:

The project consist of a 54,000 gsf, 5-story core and shell office building in the historical district, at SW 1st Ave and SW Pine St. The building house PAE’s Portland office and other tenants. It includes retail spaces ata the ground floor.

PAE Living Building Receives Design Advice (images)

A proposal to build a mixed-use retail and office building, designed to meet the Living Building Challenge, has gone in front of the Historic Landmarks Commission to receive design advice. The PAE Living building is being designed by ZGF Architects, with developer Gerding Edlen acting as the owner’s representative. PAE Engineers would be one of the occupants. The 5-story building would include nearly 5,000 sq ft of ground level retail space, with four floors of office above it. No vehicular parking is proposed.

A new restaurant named Canopy will open this May in the ZGF Architects designed Canopy Hotel.

Pearl District residents turned out at city council in an attempt to block the Fremont Place Apartmentswrites the Oregonian. The Willamette Week reported that a former president of the Pearl District Neighborhood Association warned that if efforts to block housing are successful the neighborhood “could become an urban gated community for the landed class.”

The Portland Mercury reported that the Canopy Restaurant will open this May in the Pearl District Canopy Hotel.

The Daily Journal of Commerce reported on the demolition of the old OHSU School of Dentistry, which is being torn down with “Jurassic flair“*. The building will be replaced by the new OHSU Elk’s Children Eye Clinic.

The Portland Mercury reported that the decades old Chinese Village restaurant has closed its kitchen. A 20,480 square feet grocery store proposed for the site at 520 SE 82nd Ave was recently submitted for building permit review.

The Daily Journal of Commerce published photos of the demolition of the old Fishels Furniture building. It is being torn down to make way for the 5 MLK development.

Architect and City Council Candidate Stuart Emmons is “angling for the anti-development vote in Portland”, according to the Willamette Week.

The Portland Tribune profiled Carrie Strickland, founder and majority owner of Works Progress Architecture.

One year into Portland’s Inclusionary Housing ordinance, a memo from the Bureau of Planning and Sustainability recommends exploring changes to the program* in order to ensure continued housing supplies, reports the Daily Journal of Commerce.

The City of Portland wants to change the state constitution in order to build more affordable housing for its money, according to the Willamette Week.

The Daily Journal of Commerce published photos of the under construction Gladys McCoy Building, which will serve as the new headquarters for the Multnomah County Health Department.

Pine State Biscuits is moving into Northwest, with a lease signed at the George Besaw Apartments

Bob Frasca of ZGF Architects, who “helped define Portland’s skyline“, passed away at the age of 84.

Eater Portland reported that Pine State Biscuits, Life of Pie Pizza and Moberi will be moving into the George Besaw Apartmentscurrently under construction on the site that was formerly home to Besaw’s Restaurant.

According to the Portland Business Journal Amazon will nearly double its current Portland footprint by taking 85,000 sq ft in the Broadway Tower.

Design Commission Approves Eleven West (Images)

The Design Commission has approved Eleven West, a 290′-6″ tall tower planned for SW 11th & Washington St. The 24 story building is being designed by ZGF Architects for Gerding Edlen Development and Downtown Development Group. At the ground level the building will include 7,816 sq ft of retail fronting onto all three streets surrounding it. Levels 2 to 7 of the tower will be offices, while levels 8 to 24 will include 222 residential units. Four levels of below grade parking will provide 258 vehicular parking stalls, accessed from SW 12th Ave. Long term parking for 365 bicycles will be provided.
