The Design Commission has approved the George Besaw Apartments, a four story mixed use development at NW 23rd and Savier by GBD Architects, for developer CE John. The 51 unit building will be located at the original location of Besaw’s restaurant, and will include 6,000 sq ft of ground floor retail facing NW 23rd Ave. 24 vehicular parking spaces will be provided, mostly in a mechanical parking system. 59 long-term and 5 short-term bicycle parking spaces will be provided.

Design Commission approves apartment building at NW 19th & Quimby (images)
The Design Commission has a approved a mixed use building at NW 19th & Quimby designed by SERA Architects. The project for developer Urban Asset Advisors will include 90 residential units, and approximately 2,100 sq ft of ground floor retail space. Parking for 47 cars will be provided, 34 of them in a mechanized system. Parking for 116 bicycles will be provided, primarily via racks located in the units. A common room and exterior roof terrace for the use of the residents will be provided at the 6th floor.
North 18 receives Design Advice (images)
YBA Architects have presented early designs for North 18 to the Design Commission. The proposed mixed use building would include 109 residential apartment units, 6 townhomes and approximately 4,430 sq ft of retail.
Landmarks Commission approves NW 23rd Ave Restoration Hardware (images)
After three Design Advice hearings and two Design Review hearings, the Historic Landmarks Commission has approved designs for a new Restoration Hardware building on NW 23rd Ave. The building by Ankrom Moisan Architects will be modeled on the store’s ‘Gallery’ concept, where furniture is display in a series of linked rooms as they might be in a house. A grand staircase will rise through the three story building, up to an open air pavilion and roof terrace where outdoor furniture will be displayed. Below-grade parking for 18 vehicles will be provided.
Building at NW 19th & Quimby goes before Design Commission (images)
SERA Architects have gone before the Design Commission with plans for a new mixed use building at NW 19th & Quimby. The project by Urban Asset Advisors would include 90 residential units, 2 live/work units at the ground floor and a 1,200 sq ft retail space. Parking for 50 cars would be provided, 34 of them in a mechanized system. Parking for 120 bicycles will be provided, primarily via racks located in the units. A common room and exterior roof terrace for the use of the residents will be provided at the 6th floor.
New apartment building will wrap around former Besaw’s restaurant
A Pre-Application Conference has been scheduled by GBD Architects to discuss a new mixed use building at NW 23rd & Savier. The four story building would include ground floor retail, with 35 residential units above. The new building would wrap around an existing building that was occupied by Besaw’s restaurant until May of this year. A new covered restaurant seating area is shown in between the existing building and the new structure. 24 mechanical parking spaces are proposed, while 5 existing retail parking spaces will be retained at the north side of the site.
Historic Landmarks Commission discusses Restoration Hardware (images)
The proposed Restoration Hardware store on NW 23rd has returned for a third Design Advice hearing in front of the Historic Landmarks Commission. The proposed store by Ankrom Moisan Architects will be modeled on the furniture store’s ‘Gallery’ concept, as used at the recently opened West Hollywood store. Furniture would be display in a series of linked rooms, as they might be in a house. At the top of the three story building a roof terrace will be used to display outdoor furniture.
Design Advice offered for the Field Office (images)
Design Advice has been offered to Hacker Architects (formerly known as THA Architecture) for the Field Office on NW Front Ave. The scheme for developer Project^ will include two office buildings, designed to sit in a restored landscape where the architects state that “people are connected to nature at all times”. Together the two buildings will offer 270,000 sq ft of office, ground floor retail and amenity space, as well as underground parking for 221 vehicles.
Under Construction: Riverscape Lot 1 (images)

Construction is underway on Riverscape Lot 1, a six-story mixed-use development along the Willamette River in the shadow of the Fremont Bridge. Plans call for a U-shaped building comprising 149 residential units and a small retail space on the street-facing side of the building. Design is by SERA Architects, with Fore Property Company developing the project.
Construction starts on 19th & Overton apartments (images)
Construction has started on 19th & Overton Apartments by GBD Architects and Gerding Edlen development. The 6-story building will contain 58 apartment units, including 4 loft units with entries that open directly onto NW Overton St. A roof deck for the use residents is proposed, with a fire pit and an outdoor kitchen. 33 vehicular parking spaces will be provided, all but one of which in a mechanical parking system. 64 long term bicycle parking space will be provided, mostly in a secure bike room.
