The Design Commission has approved designs for a remodel of the Portland State University Peter Stott center, which will include the creation of the new Viking Pavilion. The project by Woofter Architecture, Sink Combs Dethlefs Architects and Lango Hansen Landscape Architects will create a new multi-purpose arena with seating for 3,400 people in the heart of the PSU Campus. As reported in March of last year, the building will also be used by OHSU, who are contributing part of the funding. Other functions to be located in the building include new classroom space, offices, a cafe and a student lounge. 62 short-term bike parking spaces will be provided. No vehicular parking is proposed.

Tower at 14th & Glisan has second Design Advice hearing (images)
Ankrom Moisan Architects have returned in front of the Design Commission with revised designs for a 16 story tower at NW 14th & Glisan in the Pearl District. The developer behind the 174.5’ tall project is Holland Partner Group. The mixed use building will contain 243 residential unit and 6,414 sq ft of ground floor retail. Parking for 207 vehicles is planned in four levels of below grade parking.
Mixed income development on Riverplace Parcel 3 has first Design Advice hearing (images)
A mixed income development on Riveplace Parcel 3 has gone before the Design Commission for its first Design Advice hearing. The project by Ankrom Moisan Architects will include two buildings: a 14 story west building with 209 units of affordable housing; and a 6 story east building with 162 units of market rate housing. The project is being jointly developed by San Francisco based affordable housing provider BRIDGE Housing and Portland based Williams & Dame. The landscape architects are Lango Hansen.
The ground floor of the east building will include 12,880 sq ft of retail space, which could be occupied by a neighborhood scale grocer. The east building will also contain 16,460 sq ft of “maker space”. Vehicular parking will be shared between the two buildings, with 163 spaces provided for the residents and 39 spaces for the retail spaces. Over 500 bicycle parking spaces will be provided.

The Design Commission has approved a 15-story mixed-use development at 4th & Harrison, after four Design Advice hearings and two Design Review hearings. The 175’ tall building will provide 424 residential units, with a mix of studio, one, two and three bedroom apartments. At the ground level a 33,000 sq ft supermarket is planned, as well as an additional 5,000 sq ft retail space. 208 vehicular parking spaces are proposed, split between 137 spaces for the residents, and 71 for the supermarket / retail uses. An optional 4th parking level would provide an additional 80 spaces. The building will include 656 long term bicycle parking spaces.
The project is being developed by Chicago based developer Core Spaces. The design architects for the building are Hartshorne Plunkard Architecture of Chicago, with Portland based Myhre Group Architects acting as consulting architects. The landscape design is by Portland based Lango Hansen.
Grant Park Village Phase II goes before Design Commission (images)
Grant Park Village Phase II has gone before the Design Commission for its first Design Review hearing. The 5 story building by LRS Architects for developer Capstone Partners is proposed to include 163 residential units and 107 vehicular parking spaces. The landscape design for the project is by Lango Hansen.
4th & Harrison has first Design Review hearing (images)
After 4 Design Advice hearings, the proposed 15-story mixed-use development at 4th & Harrison has gone before the Design Commission for its first Design Review hearing. The 175’ tall building will provide 424 residential units, with a mix of studio, one, two and three bedroom apartments. At the ground level a 33,000 sq ft supermarket is planned, as well as an additional 5,000 sq ft retail space. 151 vehicular parking spaces are proposed, split between 80 spaces for the residents, and 71 for the supermarket / retail uses. An optional 3rd parking level would provide an additional 81 spaces.
The project is being developed by Chicago based developer Core Spaces. The design architects for the building are Hartshorne Plunkard Architecture of Chicago, with Portland based Myhre Group Architects acting as consulting architects. Design Advice offered for the Field Office (images)
Design Advice has been offered to Hacker Architects (formerly known as THA Architecture) for the Field Office on NW Front Ave. The scheme for developer Project^ will include two office buildings, designed to sit in a restored landscape where the architects state that “people are connected to nature at all times”. Together the two buildings will offer 270,000 sq ft of office, ground floor retail and amenity space, as well as underground parking for 221 vehicles.
4th & Harrison returning for Design Advice (images)
Core Spaces are set to appear in front of the Design Commission with revised designs for 4th & Harrison, a 15 story apartment building. The proposed building will include 425 rental units, with a mix of studio, one, two and three bedroom apartments. According to the developer the intent is that the project will “have wide appeal including recent graduates and young professionals, families [and] empty-nesters.” Plans show a 30,000 sq ft grocery store at the ground level, along with a 5,000 sq ft ‘fast casual’ restaurant. The building will include 158 below grade car parking spaces, accessed from SW Harrison. 66 spaces will be reserved for the use of shoppers at the grocery store, with the remaining 92 spaces dedicated to residents of the building. The design architects for the building are Hartshorne Plunkard Architecture of Chicago, with Portland based Myhre Group Architects acting as consulting architects.
