GBD Architects and PLACE landscape architects have gone in front of the Design Commission to present a 35-story mixed use building proposed for downtown Portland. The Block 216 tower would include retail, office, hotel, and residential condominium uses, with a 310 stall underground parking garage. The project is being developed by BPM Real Estate Group.

Moxy Hotel Approved by Design Commission (images)
The Design Commission has approved a new hotel at SW 10th & Alder. The 12 story hotel, designed by DLR Group for Graves Hospitality, will be operated as a Moxy Hotel, a new brand by Marriott International. The building will rise to a maximum height of 140′-4″, and will include 197 guest rooms. No vehicular parking is proposed.
Clay + Tiffany Student Housing Approved by Design Commission (images)
The Design Commission has approved the Clay + Tiffany Apartments, a 163′-10″ tall student housing tower being developed by non-profit College Housing Northwest (CHNW) in collaboration with Mainland Northwest, LLC. The sixteen story building, designed by SERA Architects, will include 259 “group living” studio apartments with shared kitchens. A 1,200 sq ft retail space is proposed at the ground level. No vehicular parking parking is proposed. 393 long-term bicycle parking spaces are proposed.
Renovation of 10th & Yamhill Smart Park Approved (images)
The Design Commission has approved plans by the Portland Bureau of Transportation and Prosper Portland to renovate the 10th & Yamhill Smartpark Garage. The project is being designed by FFA Architecture and Interiors, and is intended to address ADA and seismic deficiencies in the existing structure, as well as improve the ground level retail experience.
Design Commission Approves 140 SW Columbia St (images)
The Design Commission has approved designs for full block, 20 story mixed use tower at 140 SW Columbia St, designed by GBD Architects. The project for Texas-based developer Alamo Manhattan will include 349 residential units, 15,000 sq ft of ground floor retail space within the ground floor. An above grade garage will include 236 vehicular parking spaces. 521 long term bicycle parking spaces are proposed.
Design Commission Approves Eleven West (Images)
The Design Commission has approved Eleven West, a 290′-6″ tall tower planned for SW 11th & Washington St. The 24 story building is being designed by ZGF Architects for Gerding Edlen Development and Downtown Development Group. At the ground level the building will include 7,816 sq ft of retail fronting onto all three streets surrounding it. Levels 2 to 7 of the tower will be offices, while levels 8 to 24 will include 222 residential units. Four levels of below grade parking will provide 258 vehicular parking stalls, accessed from SW 12th Ave. Long term parking for 365 bicycles will be provided.

The building will rise to a maximum height of 136′, and will include 179 guest rooms. No vehicular parking is proposed.
Rebuild of Portland Building Approved (images)
The proposed rebuild of the Portland Building has been approved by the Landmarks Commission, with the decision upheld by the City Council at appeal. The almost $200 million reconstruction of the Michael Graves designed building is being led by DLR Group, and is intended to address seismic deficiencies and water intrusions issues that have been present since the building was completed.
Renovation of Fliedner Building Approved (images)
The Design Commission has approved a major renovation of downtown’s Fliedner Building. The core and shell renovation is being designed by Jones Architecture, for building owner Singer Properties. The project will include a seismic upgrade and the insertion of a new exit stair, which will allow the currently vacant upper floors to be converted to office space. Two new landscaped roofs courts will be added at the top of the building. Exterior work will include stucco and terracotta repairs, new paint, and replacement of existing windows with new wood windows.
Renovation of PSU Neuberger Hall Approved (images)
The Design Commission has approved a major renovation of Portland State University’s Neuberger Hall. The project is being designed by Hacker architects, with landscape design by Mayer Reed. The renovation will include a complete interior renovation designed to address significant deferred maintenance. Significant alterations will also be made to the exterior envelope of the building, much of which is currently failing.
