The centerpiece of the Riverplace Redevelopment would be the “Portland Steps” at the corner of SW Montgomery Street and River Drive. The steps would lead people up to an elevated open space—and potentially to a bridge spanning over Harbor Drive to Naito Parkway.

Towers and terraces are imagined as part of the Riverplace Redevelopment, reports the Oregonian. At full build out the masterplan could include 2,500 apartments, 500 hotel rooms and 250,000 sq ft of office space.

Construction has finished* up at Sideyard, one of the “final pieces in the rapid redevelopment near the Burnside Bridge’s east end”, writes the Daily Journal of Commerce.

Masia by chef Jose Chesa will open as the anchor restaurant for the Hyatt Centric hotel, reports Portland Monthly.

The Business Tribune reported on how the $70 million renovation of Neuberger Hall, now known as Fariborz Maseeh Hall, has breathed new life and light into the Portland State University building.

Some businesses still bristling at having to pay Portland’s clean energy tax, reports the Oregonian. Included in the tax on “large retailers” are general contractors working on large projects, for clients including OHSU.

Portland Architecture looked at whether Sustainable Building Week can revive “Portland’s lost momentum”.

Portland Public Schools is eyeing a summer deadline to finalize details of a 2020 construction bond. The measure could include upgrades to Cleveland, Jefferson and Wilson high schools.

Block 76 West
Block 76 West is under construction at the Burnside Bridgehead. The building will include retail space at the lower floors and office space above.

The International Mass Timber Conference is coming to Portland this week, reports the Business Tribune. The keynote speaker will be Paul Williamson, Managing Director, Modular Housing for Swan Housing in the UK.

The Burnside bridgehead building boom* continues with Block 76 West, writes the Daily Journal of Commerce. The five-story mixed-use building is being framed with Cross-Lamintated Timber, which has resulted in time savings of “several months”.

The Residential Infill Project, which would re-legalize duplexes, triplexes and fourplexes on almost all lots in Portland, passed the Planning and Sustainability Commission on Tuesday. Earlier in the week the Oregonian had reported on questions about how many new units of housing the project will deliver, and where in the city they will be built.

De La Salle North Catholic High School has found a new home at the southeast corner of NE 42nd and Killingsworth, reports The Skanner. A signed letter of intent give the school “a 50-year lease with two 25-year extensions.”

A large Lexus Dealership is coming to 3075 NE Sandy Blvd, reports KGW. The four story building will include an independent coffee shop on the ground floor with more showroom space on the second and third floors.

KATU reported that advocates for renters say developer behind the Norway I & II apartments at 6770 N Maryland Ave and 6780 N Maryland Ave is “using affordable [a] housing law loophole“.

The redevelopment of Kellogg Middle School at 6909 SE Powell Blvd has been submitted for a Type III Conditional Use Review:

Redevelop the entire Kellogg Middle School site. Demo existing structures and remove the debris. Development of vacant field since the property will then be graded and reseeded in anticipation of the redevelopment of the site in spring 2019. The cleaned site will house a new 105,000 sf school structure, off street parking area and bus loop, recreation field, and a limited service access road. The off-street parking area will contain 34 parking spaces, 2 of which will be handicapped and 2 carpool parking spaces. A free-standing obelisk sign will be located at the corner of SE Powell Blvd and 69th Ave.

The revised design for the Fremont Place apartments will include a wider greenway trail and creative art studio spaces facing the river.

The Daily Journal of Commerce wrote about Block 76 West—the project formerly known as Sideyard—which is “being squeezed into hot spot“*.

In a 4-0 vote, the Portland City Council took a tentative vote to approve revised designs for the Fremont Place ApartmentsThe Pearl District Neighborhood Association had previously voted to drop their opposition to the project.

Longtime Central Eastside developer Beam has been picked to lead the redevelopment of the ODOT Blocks, reports the Oregonian.

According to the Oregonian Blue Star Donuts will open a “massive new downtown Portland flagship” in the 12th & Morrison office building.

Skylab presents skywalk to Design Commission (images)

Skylab Architecture have presented a proposal to the Design Commission for a skywalk which would link the Yard tower at the Burnside Bridgehead to the proposed Sideyard building. The under construction Yard tower by Key Development and Guardian Real Estate Services will include 276 residential apartment units and 19,709 sq ft of retail/office space. Sideyard by Key Development is currently going through Design Review, and is planned to include 21,151 sq ft of retail and office space.

The delay in implementing the planned increases in Parks Systems Development Charges will save OHSU $1 million, according to a story in The Oregonian. OHSU is currently moving ahead with the Center for Health and Healing South and the Knight Cancer Research BuildingThe latter is scheduled to return before the Design Commission for a second Design Advice hearing on September 24th.

As reported by the KATU, the Facebook group ‘Stop Demolishing Portland‘ held a protest at the corner of N Williams and Fremont. Almost 20 people turned up to protest nearby developments, which include the Cook Street Apartments, One North and Carbon12.

BikePortland reported on Sideyard, a proposed building on Block 76W of the Burnside Bridgehead that may include a bike through window. The 20,000 sq ft building by Skylab and Key Development is proposed for the sliver of land across the street from Yard (formerly Block 67).
