The OMSI masterplan envisions realigning SE Water Avenue to run along the perimeter of the site.

As much as 2 million square feet of development in the Central Eastside is proposed as part of the OMSI Masterplan, reports the Oregonian—the equivalent of two U.S. Bancorp Towers. The masterplan went in front of the Design Commission for its first Design Advice Request meeting last week.

The Broadway Corridor Masterplan also had its first Design Advice Request meeting. Commissioners praised “the change it would bring to the area but [took] issue with the intended use of the city’s Green Loop,”* according to the Daily Journal of Commerce.

The Business Tribune published an interview with outgoing Lloyd Center manager Bob Dye. Work is set to start soon on the Lloyd West Anchor Remodel, which will include a Live Nation venue. The center recently presented revised plans for the Lloyd East Anchor Remodel to the Design Commission.

The Willamette Week reported that the cost of building new schools and affordable housing could rise under the Portland Clean Energy Fund, due the fact that large construction companies are being classified as “retail businesses.”

The Business Tribune spoke to 10 food carts about their plans for where they will go after construction starts on Block 216. The Oregonian wrote about 10 carts that turned downtown Portland’s biggest food cart pod into a tourist destination.

A Portland preservationist, and former chair of the Historic Landmarks Commission, wants the Jefferson Station building removed from the National Register of Historic Places, reports the Oregonian. The shell of the historic building is being incorporated into the new Multnomah County Central Courthouse.

A Pre-Application Conference has been scheduled by Lever Architecture to discuss the renovation of the Artists Repertory Theater at 1515 SW Morrison St:

Renovation of the existing 18,000sf Artist Repertory Theater (ART) building. The renovation will add new theater, rehearsal, office and support space for ART and a dozen affiliated companies in the ART HUB. The expansion will add a partial second floor and increase the total area to approximately 28,000sf. The existing concrete exterior walls and the east and west bays of existing structure will remain. The central portion of the building will be rebuilt with a higher structure to accommodate a large theater and second floor. The existing covered drive will be infilled with a new main entry and lobby space. The two levels of parking below the main floor will remain. Parking Level 1 will be accessed from an entry in the building along SW 15th Avenue. Parking Level 2 will be accessed from a new entry in the future ART Tower. The Design Commission has approved a 7 story mixed use building at 1500 SW Taylor St. The 7 story building by Leeb Architects for Shelter Holdings will include 105 units, including three ground level work-live units. 782 sq ft of ground-level retail space will be located at the northeast corner of the building. Parking for 20 vehicles and 163 bicycles will be provided.

The building will be subject to the city’s inclusionary housing rules, which require the provision of affordable housing or the payment of a fee-in-lieu.

Weekly Roundup: PDX Concourse E, Block 216, Wells Fargo Center, and more

Construction is well underway at the PDX Concourse E Extension. The expanded concourse is set to open to the public in 2020.

The Design Commission has approved the 97th and Couch Apartments, a six story building in Gateway designed by Works Progress Architecture. The building will include 61 residential units, with a mix of studios, one- and two-bedroom units, as well as a small ground floor retail space. 62 long term and 6 short bicycle parking spaces will be provided, plus 11 spaces for electric scooters. No vehicular parking is proposed.

The building will be subject to the city’s inclusionary housing rules, which require the provision of affordable housing or the payment of a fee-in-lieu.
