The Daily Journal of Commerce looked at construction progress at 7 Southeast Stark, the 10-story mixed use building being squeezed into a parcel between I5 and the Union Pacific railroad tracks*. Plans for a nearby 9 story office building at 129 SE Alder, also designed by Works Progress Architecture for Harsch Properties, have been put on hold.
Construction on the Press Blocks will start this month, reports the Oregonian. The first phase of development will include the half block office building, now known as Canvas. Construction on the 23-story tower is expected to start in 2019, however financing has yet to be secured.

I wish it was a joke. When I first saw its construction from the highway, I thought it was an above grade parking structure alone but it’s not. Is it really that hard to submerge this part of the structure of is it a structural stability issue this close to the river? I didn’t realize the upper floors would look like this but it’s just awful. Who would keep their blinds open with the whole world to see your business’ work? Let’s hope those windows aren’t operable.. Likewise, why are the modern developers so scared to put a profound topper elements on their buildings? It’s a way to conclude the structure, like a period on a sentence – a building needs to be purposeful and apt. They need to figure their designs out because this is embarrassing.
